The SOAS scheme supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds

The SOAS Student Success Scheme Conference 2020 is taking place this September, and is designed for students starting at SOAS who are from underrepresented backgrounds.

If you’re a Mature Student (21 years or older) starting SOAS in September, part of the First-Generation in your family to attend University, a Care Leaver, an Estranged Student, or from a Low-Participation Neighbourhood, you can join our scheme.

The SOAS Student Success Scheme is a year long programme developed to support students from underrepresented backgrounds in Higher Education to excel during their time at SOAS. The 2020 Student Success Scheme consists of a 4-day Online Student Success Conference, a year-long Peer Mentoring Programme, tailored support and events run by the Student Success Team, and much more!

Student Success Scheme Conference

In response to the challenges posed by Covid-19 this year’s Student Success Conferences will be held online via online learning platforms Moodle & Blackboard Collaborate. The 4-day conference is designed to be a transitional step before the start of term, and aims to equip incoming students with the skills for success to maximise their experience and potential whilst at SOAS. This year’s conference will include a full schedule of live interactive sessions and skills workshops including a guest lecture and tutorial, as well as a host of pre-produced resources and videos.

Students will also receive ongoing support from a Student Ambassador throughout the year.

All of this content is directed towards helping participants develop a strong foundation of Peer Support Networks and Academic Confidence prior to embarking on Week 1 of their Undergraduate Degree.

Sign up below to participate in this year’s SOAS Student Success Scheme including attending one of our 4-day Online Student Success Conferences for First-Generation students (14th-17th September) or Mature Students (21st-24th September).
