Kadialy says, “This piece is dedicated to royalty and nobility. This is something related to my griot ancestry. The Griots are oral historians, like bards in the old Mande Empire. I come from a long line of that hereditary griot tradition dated back to the 13th century. Therefore, this piece reflects on identity.”

This song is part of our Black History Month 2020 series, which celebrates black voices and achievements over time, and across the globe. The series features contributions from SOAS alumni, academics, and students.
