Diplomacy student represents SOAS at Abu Dhabi ‘PeaceGame’ event

Alexandra Abdelwahab, MA International Studies and Diplomacy, was selected to participate in the 2018 Future Diplomats PeaceGame, which was held this November in Abu Dhabi.

Each year Foreign Policy convenes leading minds in national security policy, international affairs, academia, business, and media to “game” out how to bring seemingly intractable conflicts to a peaceful conclusion. This exercise, which they call PeaceGame, offers a chance to address the challenges of conflict resolution and peacebuilding with the same creativity and focus as has been traditionally devoted to war games.

Alexandra had the opportunity to represent India in the nuclear crisis between India and Pakistan as she tried to negotiate a peace settlement during the official Peace Game, which was held on the third day of the conference.

Participants also attended DiploCon 2018, The Abu Dhabi Diplomacy Conference and heard presentations from academics, ministers and diplomats from around the world on gender, training, technology and culture and how these issues relate to diplomacy.
