6 of the Best Vegan Places to Try in London

Walk into any supermarket, and vegan products now sit centre stage. Once hidden away on an ‘alternative’  shelf or in a hemp-filled health shop, vegan food in the capital is now plantiful (sorry). That goes for restaurants and cafes too. So on the last week of  Veganuary, here are a range of spots across London to try something new and get your vegan fix.

Vegan Yes Shoreditch | Korean & Italian Fusion

Ever had a vegan fusion of Korean and Italian food?…I’m guessing it’s a no. Well, you’re in luck. This small and unique restaurant is run by a couple who each bring their own heritage and skillset to the mix. Chef Mauro’s homemade Italian cooking is influenced by Dr Min’s background in traditional medicine and knowledge of Korean cuisine. Their plant-based menu with probiotic and raw options aims to “use healthy ingredients that benefit body, mind & soul”. If you don’t know whether you’re a fan of kimchi, they offer a taste of a variety of kimchi with different spice levels to see what you like before you order. I highly recommend going for the experience. Where else would you find a Kimchi Negroni?

A Taste of the Menu: Sushi Burger, Kimchi Lasagna, Naples Kimbap, Kimchi Negroni
Nearest Tube: Shoreditch High Street

Addis Vegan Kitchen

Addis Vegan Kitchen | Ethiopian

Addis Kitchen is a hidden gem on Old Kent Road. This small restaurant popular with locals offers fresh, delicious food with big portions making it excellent value for money. What particularly stands is the relaxed atmosphere and the super friendly and extra accommodating owners. Not one to miss.

A Taste of the Menu: Yetsom Beyaynetu, Shira Wot, Misir Wot, BYOB
Nearest Tube: Borough (A bit of a walk but worth it)

Vantra | International

Vantra offers a calming respite from the commotion of Leicester Square with friendly staff and a clear ethos. You won’t find any vegan fast food here. Instead, Vantra offers a “dairy-free, gluten-free, refined sugar-free, cruelty-free” menu full of fresh ingredients and flavours. It’s not the cheapest option, but the taste and quality are hard to match. Check its opening times before going to avoid disappointment.

A Taste of the Menu:  Nyonya Curry with Quinoa or Rice, Chilli Bean, Thai Twist, Juices, Smoothies
Nearest Tube: Leicester Square

The Canvas

The Canvas: Cafe & Creative Venue | European

The Canvas is not only a vegan cafe. This spot just off Brick Lane is also a community hub and creative venue. It is committed to a whole host of positive social initiatives, including a Pay It Forward scheme, providing food and drinks to the local homeless community, and The Canvas Academy, which offers free expert training for people on a low-income living in London. Their cafe is pretty great too.

A Taste of the Menu: A Fully Vegan English Breakfast, Winter Vegetable Dumpling Stew, House Pancakes
Nearest Tube: Shoreditch High Street

Eat Of Eden | Caribbean Ital

Eat of Eden provides vegan home-cooked style meals with great flavour, comforting portions, and healthy recipes. Visit one of their six locations across London or grab a takeaway – but leave a good amount of time as it is popular and delivery times can be a bit slow.

A Taste of the Menu: Platters with Ackee & Sweet Peppers, Lentil Stew, Stewed Peas, Patties and Salads
Nearest Tube: 6 Locations

Mildreds | International

A resident of London for over 30 years, this once-vegetarian restaurant has now become fully plant-based. They have six locations across the capital with all-day menus covering a range of cuisines. Mildreds offer great quality dishes, lots of options, and a welcoming environment for a special meal out.

A Taste of the Menu: Bhatti Ka Chick’n Kebabs, Buraki, White Chocolate Tiramisu.
Nearest Tube: 6 Locations
